WORKSHOP - Crashworthiness Simulation and Test
AGENDA
FIRST DAY
- What means safety in automotive, all around the world
- Evolution of the crash simulation during the past decades
- What to measure and how to do it
- Introduction to active and passive safety and a look to future trends
- Influence of virtual testing on the evolution of the safety and regulation
- Injury biomechanics, dummy and barrier technologies and models
- Current crash-rules and regulations
- Overview of most important rules (frontal, side, head, pole, rear impact, pedestrian protection, rollover,…) in EU, USA, Brazil and further international rules.
- Tests for consumer protection:
- US NCAP, Euro-NCAP, Latin-NCAP
- Tests from insurance institutes
- Example of manufacturing imposed tests for performance and integrity of vehicle components.
- Occupant protection systems
- Primary components design [belt/airbags]
- Secondary component design [instrument panel, door, vehicle structure]
SECOND DAY
- A more detailed look to the most important protection criteria in:
- Frontal Impact
- Side Impact
- Pole Impact
- Presentation of Altair case studies in automotive safety
- Challenges and opportunities from global platform development local supplier and material base.
- How to achieve cost reduction while maintaining or improving vehicle performance
- Focus on subsystems as strategy to optimize automotive safety performance
- FEA Modeling best practices:
- Materials for modeling metals, plastics, foams for crash simulation
- Recommendations selecting mesh, element, connection types.
- Model checking and validation : energies check, mass check
- Crash simulation Post Processing
